Known by the name Sarah. Worked as a Sick Nurse and it may have been because of her work that she found herself in Blackburn about 1906. During the early part of 1907 while living at 18 Simmons Street she became pregnant and married the father, Joseph Herberts that summer. The name Gertrude Sarah is used at this time for unknown reasons. The couple moved to 3 Morton Street, Blackburn in time for the birth of Miriam that December. After a year or two, the family moved to 26 William Henry Street, Blackburn. Sons, Maurice (b.1909) and David (b.1913) were both born there.
After Joseph Herberts was killed in 1917, Sarah married a cellarman, Joseph Walsh who was a neighbour at 29 William Henry Street, Blackburn. There she had two other children, Connie and Freda. Sarah's son Maurice died in 1923 from tuberculosis.
There are thought to be descendents of siblings living in Liverpool and Canada but contact has been lost.

The marriage certificate shows incorrect forenames and ages for both parties which is thought to be deliberate to hide the fact they were both minors and possibly had no parental consent.
